It is pointless to write a reflection when a long-shot candidate wins the United States presidency. When I scanned media reporting and people’s comments today, some are angry and worried. Some are elated. Most seem shocked. But really Christians should shut off the TV and radio and social media in order to remind themselves that presidencies don’t really matter for those who believe in the Kingdom of Heaven. Saint Padre Pio said, “pray, hope, and don’t worry,” St. Teresa of Avila said, “God alone suffices,” and Julian of Norwich said, “All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well.” And as we all know, Jesus Himself advised against worry or putting your faith in the kingdom of men–many times.
So think of the things you are grateful for and live the life God has given you. Don’t be elated if your candidate won. Don’t be worried if your candidate lost. God never changes and is faithful to His people.
