The researcher also reminds us that genes are not destiny. The actions we take make a big difference. For people of faith that means prayer, guarding our thoughts, becoming involved in a community, assessing our health realistically, and being humble enough to made life adjustments when needed. We can also teach our children about the faith and about how to live in order to reduce the risk for depression and other physical, mental, and emotional conditions. It is not a guarantee. Sometimes you can “do everything right” and still develop problems. But, it is our duty to take responsibility to do our part in caring for our temple of the Holy Spirit.
