Welcome to HealthyCatholics!
This blog is DepressedandCatholic’s upgrade. DepressedandCatholic has been around three years and I became discontent with its narrow focus and often misinterpreted name. More on that is found in the About section.
For those of you who frequented the old blog the first thing you will notice is that the cover picture is of wheat rather than a stained glass version of Michaelangelo’s creation of man. This is because in scripture wheat represents God’s nourishment and our desire for heaven. It is a hopeful symbol, warm, and bright in color. Wheat is hearty and grows best in large fields– many individual stalks growing close together. It therefore inspires the message that we need to work for health, heartiness in virtue, and a holy outcome for our lives in cooperation with God Who provides all grace, directly and through people, situations, and creations.
There are other changes besides the name and cover picture. Mental health topics will now include anxiety, mania, obsessive-compulsions, and ADD/ADHD as well as depression. Spiritual topics and inspiration won’t always relate to mental health issues. Spiritual helps are spiritual helps regardless of focus. Humor and quotes will remain of course.
There will also be the opportunity to occasionally donate guest blog posts and there is a forum. Both of these will be monitored in order to keep with the ultimate purpose of this blog– to create a place where we can encourage each other to become healthy, hearty, and holy.
The last important difference between this blog and DepressedandCatholic is that this one has a patron Saint. She is the first and most pure of God’s elect, the mother of God. She is more than just a Saint to us. She is our mother too and in her we often find special solace in difficult times. I chose her as Our Lady of Perpetual Help. There is more about that in the Patron tab.
I hope you visit often, participate, support us on Facebook, Twitter, and the other social networks. Please spread the word that we exist. That is the only way we can truly become a community of psychologically and spiritually imperfect people seeking to grow healthier and closer to God as we journey through this life.
Thank you for stopping by. Do read the information found on the tabs above. Come back!
You are right. This site looks very inviting. To see a wheat growing is indeed food for our souls. I am equally thrilled that Our Lady of Perpetua is the Patron Saint of this site. Blessed be and thank you for continuing your ministry.
Thank you Perpetua! What a wonderful name you have. Pray for us here, including yourself!
Definitely excited about the new blog. The name is so inviting and the topics will be of interest to an even wider group of people. We wish you the best with “Healthy Catholics”, it will be a blessing to many!
And thanks for helping to spread the word! 100 likes on FB already– in one day!
I’m excited too. Depression, yes. But now bipolar, anxiety, scruples, etc. Most people have more than one thing. So it’s good to expand a bit. Thanks!
Congratulations for the new website! It seems promising.
Depressed & Catholic helped me a lot through depression and scruples. But the new atmosphere of the website, beginning by the title, feels much more uplifting.
Thanks for your work!
God bless you!
